Come See a Ring of Fire Biochar Kiln in Action! Have you heard of a Ring of Fire? It's a transportable biochar kiln that converts wood and other organic matter into charcoal by cutting off combustion before the carbon has a chance to burn away. Once this charcoal is biologically "charged" — through any number of methods — it becomes biochar: a remarkable soil amendment that can persist in the soil for decades, even centuries. Biochar's porous structure makes it an exceptional addition to soil — it improves water and nutrient retention, creates habitat for beneficial microbial communities, and helps sequester carbon, keeping it out of the atmosphere. Over time, it can meaningfully improve soil fertility and resilience, particularly in sandy or nutrient-poor soils. The Ring of Fire's design creates a natural convection effect that significantly reduces smoke emissions compared to open burning, making it a cleaner and more neighbor-friendly option. It's also an excellent tool for anyone who finds traditional pile burning intimidating. The kiln offers a comparatively safe, efficient, and ecologically responsible way to reduce fire fuel loads on your land — without the guesswork or risk of an open burn. Sonora, CA — There were multiple protests in Sonora on the Second Saturday of February 7, 2026 and a notable encounter I witnessed at one of them. About 30 gathered at the four corners of Greenley and Mono Way in what the organizer of that protest says will be a weekly event every Saturday in to the future. There were at least a dozen protestors on the Highway 108 overpass with “No ICE.” and the “U.S. is not ok” signs. There were also 20 protesters at Courthouse Park in Downtown Sonora

We believe our community is strongest when the wisdom of many guides the decisions that shape our lives. Grassroots governance means listening deeply, learning together, and creating space for meaningful participation—right here in Tuolumne County.
This initiative aims to bring proven, accessible digital tools to our community to support open dialogue and civic collaboration. These tools help neighbors share ideas, set priorities, weigh choices, and work together on the issues that affect our daily lives—locally, transparently, and respectfully.
In a time of growing division, grassroots governance offers another path: one rooted in connection, shared responsibility, and collective wisdom. By strengthening how we listen and decide together, we strengthen our democracy from the ground up.
Join us in building a Tuolumne County where participation is real, voices are heard, and decisions reflect the needs and values of those affected.
